In Tokyo University of Science in Suwa, Phong said that Ho Chi Minh City plans to develop a smart city with an area of 22,000 hectares and population of 1 million people, facilitating the city’s engagement in Industry 4.0.

He said he hopes the university will support the city to complete the plan.

Phong also proposed that the university design cooperation programmes with Ho Chi Minh City National University in scientific research and business and technology management training.

At a working session with Matsumoto Dental University in Shiojiri, Phong expressed his belief that the number of Vietnamese students in Japan will increase as a pilot programme to teach Japanese in primary schools is proving effective.

Matsumoto Dental University and Ho Chi Minh City should discuss partnerships in education and training, especially in new scientific sectors.

Working with the association of production promotion of Suwa, the Ho Chi Minh City leader said that with high growth, the city is a popular investment destination for Japanese investors.

According to the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), more than 70 percent of Japanese businesses want to expand their operations in Vietnam.

Noting that Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a trade-finance-science and technology centre of Southeast Asia, Phong noted that the city values resources from outside and always create optimal conditions for investors.

He said that the city hopes to attract more investment in urban infrastructure, high-technology agriculture and smart city projects.

Earlier, Phong and the Ho Chi Minh City delegation also visited Mikuro Spring and Komatsu Seiki Kosakusho companies.
